contract not renewed? feeling the effects of the economy? you maybe eligible for unemployment.  the site is in dutch, but the customer service representatives speak english. 0900 92 94.  you will need to have a digid number to apply online for unemployment, www.digid.nl/english/, you should actually get a digid number to have on hand (it's also used for taxes and registering to take a driving test).  you apply online and they mail you the information.  if you are eligible you initially get 3 months of 70-75% of your salary.  there is longer support available, but then it is through the gemeente and not the uwv and you have to qualify.
