cafe giraf
a super kid friendly place- they have a playroom in the back. this place gets packed at lunch time and the service is very friendly. they are closed on tuesdays and there is a 5€ minimum per parent.
cafe kostverloren
this is a stone's throw from my house and a regular place when i want good quick food or a beer in the sun. they have hamburgers with jalapenos and baked potatoes with chili and sour cream.
cafe louter
w and i first went here for breakfast b/c we had a "welcome to the neighborhood" coupon. it was a nice breakfast, but the servers were a little slow to take our order (i had to ask if they would come serve us or if i should order at the bar). decent breakfast, nice atmosphere. i recently went back for lunch and the service was better, but my ravioli was sad (no sauce just cooked ravioli with a little olive oil). the french fries were good and the salads looked very tasty. the prices are reasonable- but i'm not 100% sold- yet.
cake loves coffee
this lady makes cakes. good cakes. w and i were across the street buying some rugs from la naranja and it was suggested we head over across the street and try some cake. i was hesitant because so many people are "attempting" to bake in amsterdam, but this isn't an attempt. the cake loves coffee lady is the real deal. take some cash if you go, the last time i was there she didn't have a pin machine yet.
de pizzabakkers
i still love de portare via, but this place is closer to my new house and you can sit inside or outside. they have a great selection of toppings (better than de portare via), but i prefer the crust from de portare via. that being said, this is where we have pizza now that we are in the west.
fijn hout
my first experience wasn't amazing, but since it's a local restaurant and a friend knows the owner i am going to give it another try.
forno
i wrote a review on this restaurant. i didn't have the chance to eat their food, i was too disappointed in the pre-service. out of principle i haven't wanted to try it again, but maybe one day...
long pura
good indonesian in the west. the rice tafel for one are really big, for 4 (2 guys, 2 girls) people we had a rice tafel for 3.
radijs
nice corner cafe with a good lunch menu and tempting dinner menu with simple food- hamburger, vegetarian burger, steak, and chicken.
tomatillo
may i suggest the carnitas burrito with habanero salsa? ask that they mix the burrito well and they deliver for lunch, just call them directly.
yam yam
this is the cutest little italian restaurant ever (with embroidered napkins by the grandma of the owner- precious) and good friend. a friend swears by their food and their prices are good, it's not just pizza.
